Spintax Introduction

Spintax is a way of encoding written content so that a single document can produce multiple variations when the spintax is processed by text spinner software. Through a process known as article spinning, a normal document is encoded using special spintax syntax which embeds alternative words and phrases inside the document. This can go many levels deep using what is called nested spintax.

Article spinning has a number of legitimate uses. When undertaken without sufficient level of care and expertise, or when an automated spintax generator is used, however, the resulting spun articles may not always sound like natural English. Below you’ll find the answers to some commonly asked questions about spintax and article spinning.

What Does Spintax Mean

Spintax is text that has been encoded in a special way so that an article spinner will be able to select from the alternative words and phrases provided by the user randomly in order to create a finished article.  The process of creating a spintax document is called article spinning. It typically involves finding synonyms for words and phrases that convey a message close the original one. For example, if a document used the word "good", possible alternatives for that word might include "great" and "excellent".  Examples of spintax format are included below.

What Is A Spintax Article

A spintax article is an article that has been encoded with spintax to be able to produce a number of documents similar to the original, but using different words. Depending on the size of the original article and the level of effort taken, an article in which only the original sentence structures are used and certain words and phrases are spun, the resulting spintax article might produce anywhere from a few dozen to a few hundred variations through traditional linear spintax processing.

What Is Nested Spintax

Nested spintax refers to providing alternatives within alternatives. For example, the processing of spinning might begin with first rewriting an entire sentence so that we have two or more sentence variations. Then each sentence is further encoded with phrase and word-level variations. Done correctly, a typical such spun article may produce as many as a thousand variations through traditional linear spintax processing. Spinjutsu’s modular processing engine is capable of producing vastly more unique documents using only the amount of spintax.

You can see an example of nested spintax in the next section.

What Is Spintax Format

The spintax format used by almost all text spinners uses curley braces and the pipe character to encode a list of alternatives from which one is to be chosen, as follows:

When this encoding is nested, it might look like this:

My {friendly|amicable} {dog|pet} {likes to {play|fetch}|enjoys {playing|fetching}}.

Some article spinners and spintax generators use square braces instead of curly braces.

What Does Spun Mean

Spun means that the content you see is not the original, but rather is a result of a similar but different document have undergone the process of being translated into spintax syntax, either manually or by an automated spintax generator, and then processed by a word spinner to create the final document that you see.

What Is Content Spinning

Many people use the term content spinning to mean the same thing as text spinning because that’s all that most software can do. With the introduction of Spinjutsu’s GPS spinning capabilities, as well as being an image spinner able to encode filenames and metadata with LSI keyword variations, content spinning should be understood to refer to a much broader range of content types than simple text documents.

Why Spin Text

There are several legitimate reasons a business might want to spin text. The first reason is that you’ve already made an investment in good content would like to get more use out of it than just a single document. The second reason is that due to our individual linguistic processing differences, not everyone will understand a message when it’s only conveyed in a single manner. Sometimes people need to hear something a different way for it to sink in. Thus, an extremely legitimate reason to spin text is to increase the potential number of people to whom your message might be effectively conveyed through the use of multiple linguistic constructs.

What Is Modular Spintax

Modular Spintax takes the concept of article spinning to a whole new level while solving many common problems. Traditionally, creating a document able to produce thousands of variations entailed an extremely arduous process of spending many hours wading through truly massive superspun documents. These documents can get to be a hundred thousand words or more! Making a mistake somewhere along the way can cost you a lot of time trying to find and fix the problem.

The idea behind modular spintax is to break up a document into pieces that can not only be randomly reordered, but that can have entirely different versions for each module. Further, increasing the number of unique possible outputs requires only adding only small, easily-managed blocks of spintax. There’s no more wading through huge documents just to make a few changes or increase variety. This reduces risk and complexity while saving time. It also enables the creation of a growing library of modular content that is easily re-purposed for new applications.

How Do I Use Spintax
